It's hard to believe that it has been thirty years since Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane crashed in Mississippi. I was in Biloxi Mississippi when I heard the news on the radio. The radio stated that Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane had gone down near Gillsburg, Mississippi, but no word yet on survivors. I remember my friend Danny asking, I wonder if Lynyrd died. I said, their is no Lynyrd, that's the name of the band. We actually thought about driving to the crash site, but it was too far from Biloxi. As we all know, I later learned six people died in that crash, including three band members. I also learned that lead singer and songwriter Ronnie VanZant has died, meaning the band would never be the same.
I had been a huge Skynyrd fan every since the "Pronounced" LP had been released (thier first album). I had seen the band three times, so I was very familiar with them. The music and the live shows were always great.
I'm happy to see that history has treated them well. Lynyrd Skynrd songs continue to be played everyday on the radio, and people still love them.
My friend, Jacquelyn Cooper, and myself have published much information of the plane crash on the internet. The plane crashed on property owned by her family. Her family also assisted in the rescue efforts at the crash site. I talked Jacquelyn into going into the attic of the house, and digging out newspaper articles, rare pictures, and anything else related to the plane crash. She came up with some pretty cool "rare" stuff. We have published several plane crash tributes, featuring some of the only pictures of the plane crash scene itself. I consider that as one of my biggest internet accomplishiments -- coming up with some of the only pictures of the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash -- after almost thirty years. I have Jacquelyn to thank for it, or as some call her Lynley. You can see our latest tribute to the Lynyrd Sknyrd plane crash on my web site. Our Skynyrd pages include the plane crash, the news following the plane crash, Lynyrd Skynyrd concerts in Nashville, a concert at the plane crash site 25 years later, and my pictures of Lynyrd Skynyrd at Nashville's CMA Music Festival (Fan Fair) in 2006. I also interviewed Jacquelyn (with the help of her mother) about details of the crash scene. That interview can be seen on the tribute pages and on Southern Fried Magazine.
Check out the rest of the web site while you are at it. We have thousands of concert pictures taken in the Nashville Tennessee area and more.
